PRESIDENT'S WELCOME MESSAGE

Welcome to the International Center for Education and Youth Development. Most important to us is creating a community in which students find joy in the learning environment and prepare themselves for success in academic and professional life.

Our faculty teach at ICEYD because they love to work with young people who are excited about learning, who think for themselves, and who think about the needs of others. Similarly, our students love working with faculty who embody the joys and rewards of lifelong learning.

Beyond the Academy, ICEYD offers training, planning, and program evaluation services to help organizations and communities develop, implement and evaluate new initiatives and to manage their organizations more strategically. The goal is to improve life outcomes for youth families and communities by assisting other youth and family-serving organizations do what they do better.

I, too, am at ICEYD because integrity is valued as much as intellect, and because we place the development of good citizens and kind people on an equal level with academic and entrepreneurial excellence. This noble tradition, which has guided the Center since its founding in 2003, reflects a spirit of inclusion, respect, and reason.

Of course the intellectual journey is at the heart of the ICEYD experience. Our philosophy leads us to value discovery and thoughtfulness at the center of learning. Class work and practice exercises are employed only in the service of a higher goal, so that students appreciate their purpose. It is the light in a student's eye when he is grasping a new idea, the intense concentration of a young woman assessing the final results of a rigorous academic experience, or the exuberance of youth that we most value.

We are excitedly looking forward to expand our capabilities to prepare youth for leadership. To that end, a residential leadership high school is under construction.
